Synestheism

CS     How did it all begin?

CS     Well, the myths of creation come in different forms.

CS     Sometimes there are gods.

CS     Sometimes, everything simply… appears.

CS     But one thing is for certain -

CS     This world is made up of energy.

CS     LIGHT and CHAOS.

CS     And, like all matter, energy is never added or taken away.

CS     It simply - divides itself.

Every person has the capacity to hone the energy they possess into their own Values. The source of this energy has been the subject to many discussions and religions, but the oldest belief is Synestheism, which describes the existence of the Synestheistic gods - powerful, otherworldly deities made up entirely of energy. There was originally two, who would then become eight, and finally, become fourteen in total, making up the main color factions. Their purpose is to control the total amount of energy in the universe, imbuing it upon living beings and further dividing it into smaller, more manageable portions.

LIGHT (WISCE) and CHAOS (KLABE)

CS     Our souls are made of LIGHT.
CS     It’s like this burning candle, always flickering inside of us.
CS     And as you mature, you can feel it drift towards a certain color.
CS     And when you decide - yes, this color is for me -
CS     You make it yours.

PERFECTION (?)

LIGHT is one of the original deities in the Creationist mythos and supposed source of Chroma - specifically, our Color Code. As a primordial deity, there is little record of who they were, or what brought them into existence.

Once they had divided themselves into the Additives, they adapted a role amongst the primary deities as WISCE. Their previous responsibility over all living beings would be divided amongst the Additives while they would assume a more hidden, executive position.

Unlike the primary and tertiary deities, WISCE is the patron deity of colors not of a certain hue, but rather those of lighter tint (for KLABE, those of a darker shade). Therefore, children of WISCE are significantly rarer and have harder characteristics to determine, akin to the vague nature of WISCE themselves.

Nevertheless, they are regarded as a representation of all of the Additives combined - the loyalty, reliability of GROSA, and precision of BLAIR. As LIGHT incarnate, WISCE strives for precision and perfection, which can result in rigorous, harmful procedure.

CS     In contrast, CHAOS is what we can do.

CS     Our bodies are made of CHAOS.
CS     It is from CHAOS that we develop these… abilities.
CS     That which allows you to manipulate the world around you.
CS     Or even perhaps yourself.

Similarly, once CHAOS had divided themselves into the Subtractives, they adapted a role amongst the primary deities as KLABE. Their previous responsibility over the dead would also be divided amongst the Subtractives.

Notably, the Substractives' realm existing between that of the living and the dead has allowed the Chromadeity mythos to exist in tandem with major religions. Rather than hosting an afterlife, the Subtractives are responsible for judging the process of death - whether the individual may return to the living scot-free or proceed to whatever awaits them after death.

MYSTERY (?)

Like WISCE, they are often depicted with the dignity of otherworldly royalty - however, in stark contrast to WISCE's focus on precision, KLABE is associated with the mystery and stylish spirit of darkness. This likely stems from the chaotic nature of Values and their active influence on the people in which they manifest compared to the more passive spectrum of Chromas.

KLABE also represents the Subtractives combined, with the authority of CUWAL, charm of MAXUS, and spirit of YELOR. Children of KLABE can come across as prideful and pretentious, even if their larger-than-life personalities make them a joy to be around.

COURAGE

RUBER is one of the primary 8 deities and the first of the Additives. As the embodiment of COURAGE, they represent the willpower to act and the strength to fight for what is right.

RUBER is often depicted with an indestructible helm, as well as clothing befit of a war general. More heroic depictions portray them with red cape even longer than their body, which flows and crackles like fire.

Although there is no evidence of a particular order in which the Additives manifested, it is commonly accepted that RUBER was the first, and therefore the oldest.

"Without COURAGE, we are docile, vulnerable. There would be no strength behind our words, our actions. Even if we wanted to fight back, we would lack the drive to raise our fists."

RUBER is the patron of all who are loyal to their cause, fiercely carving their path no matter the cost. If the system is broken, they will topple it and lead others to build it anew. Loyal and loving, they protect themselves and anything they hold dear. While they prize comfort and protection, they have a fiery drive to take charge and carve their path.

However, they can also be headstrong, trusting their gut over what others may say. Control is not their strong suit, and it’s difficult to get along with their high sensitivity and impulse. Their boldness gives them a tendency for violence, whether purposeful or a by-product. There will be destruction in the path they sow, and they will not be immune to it.

GROSA

EMPATHY

GROSA is one of the primary 8 deities and the second of the Additives. As the embodiment of EMPATHY, they represent the compassion to appreciate life's bounties.

GROSA is often depicted with a nature-like aesthetic, cloaked in leaves and surrounded by both flora and fauna. They are also more rounded than the other deities, possibly a parallel to the planet Earth.

As the middle figure of the Additives, GROSA is characterized as an intermediary between RUBER and BLAIR, who have a tumultuous relationship due to RUBER's desire to lead and BLAIR's desire to be alone.

"Without EMPATHY, we are selfish, manipulative. We would only consider our bonds with others as inconveniences or as tools, setting the world aflame as long as it would warm us."

GROSA is the patron of all who appreciate the finer things in life. They have a natural inclination to help others, as they know that securing their surroundings is the first step to their own growth. They are also safe individuals, working towards a better future in order to protect themselves and the ones they care about.

However, they can also be too trusting, too hopeful in a world that can easily hurt them. Flexibility is not their strong suit, and it's difficult to get along with their personal standards and caution. They could easily make a friend out of an enemy in disguise, or worse, they'll convince themselves that such deed is a righteous one. The only nature they cannot grasp is that of true evil, which leaves them most vulnerable to it.

BLAIR

PERCEPTION

BLAIR is one of the primary 8 deities and the third of the Additives. As the embodiment of PERCEPTION, they represent exploration, both physical and cerebral.

BLAIR is often depicted as a hooded figure in a long robe, their face mainly covered in cloth and left a mystery, like the puzzles they would enjoy solving. Their presence is described as immense and unknowable, like the ocean.

Similarly to CUWAL of the Subtractives, BLAIR is notably more asocial than the other deities, giving them a neutral role between GROSA's benevolence and RUBER's destruction.

"Without PERCEPTION, we are immature, superficial. The surface level is all we would see, and what knowledge we have would be useless without the ability to apply it."

BLAIR is the patron of all who have eyes keen enough to patiently solve the world around them. Their head is also a world in itself, housing the meticulously collected pieces that will soon be put together. They naturally harmonize with their environment, though, rather than seeking to improve it, they'd rather learn all there is to know about it.

However, they can also be apathetic, stuck in their own mind and at their own pace. Cooperation is not their strong suit, and it's difficult to get along with their insensitivity and withdrawal. Due to their preference to rely on themselves, they can prevent themselves from learning anything from other people. What doesn't interest them will be avoided, and what will assist them will surely pass them by.

CUWAL

"Astute CUWAL - patron deity of ambitious workers, planners, and scholars."

CUWAL is one of the primary 8 deities and the first of the Subtractives. As the embodiment of ACUMEN, they represent knowledge and desire to use it to strengthen their foundation.

CUWAL is often depicted with the physique of a powerful authority, with broad shoulders and a looming figure. They are associated with formal wear and, in more modern depictions, a suit and tie.

Notably, out of all the complementary deity pairs, CUWAL and RUBER get along the least, likely due to their respective desires for power. CUWAL embodies the rigid system that RUBER seeks to destroy.

ACUMEN

"Without ACUMEN, we are aimless, lost. The mind, which should be our anchor, is a labyrinth of dead ends. What we don't know will render what we want perpetually out of reach."

CUWAL is the patron of all who strive to be a living database, organizing everything accordingly. They aim high and stride with confidence, knowing that the road ahead has been paved with plan after plan. Tradition and order are the pillars that keep them, as well as the world, functioning.

However, they can also be stubborn, refusing to think outside of the foundations they've been given. Vulnerability is not their strong suit, and it's difficult to get along with their arrogance and ruthlessness. Nothing will stand in the way of their own goals, especially those who are perceived to be competing for their rightful spot. When the systems they hinge their lives on crumble, they will be forced to fall alongside them.

MAXUS

"Charismatic MAXUS - patron deity of expressive performers, artists, and socialites."

MAXUS is one of the primary 8 deities and the second of the Subtractives. As the embodiment of CHARISMA, they represent the desire for fantasy and drama.

MAXUS is often depicted alongside more colorful, outrageous aesthetics, which match their connection to the arts. Unlike YELOR's celestial beauty, MAXUS has a more intoxicating, exotic splendor to behold.

MAXUS is notably the most cooperative with the Additives, likely due to their more social nature. It is said that they and GROSA act as both intermediaries between their respective groups and between the primary deities as a whole.

CHARISMA

"Without CHARISMA, we are ill-mannered, unpleasant. We could never understand others, and, in turn, they would never understand us, or what we truly want from them."

MAXUS is the patron of all who desire to have the attention squarely on them. They're highly in-tuned with others, with the wit to see what makes them tick and the mouth to re-wire it. If they're not the stars of the show, they'll create their own. If reality doesn't suit their whims, they'll gladly indulge in a world of fantasy.

However, they can also be boisterous, eager to entertain the impractical and ridiculous. Gumption is not their strong suit, and it's difficult to get along with their indulgence and fraudulence. They'll even make a spectacle of themselves for the hell of it. And when they lose themselves in their own performances, their true selves, or what's left of reality, are left in permanent shadow.

YELOR

"Dexterous YELOR - patron deity of fast-paced communicators, architects, and luminaries."

YELOR is one of the primary 8 deities and the third of the Subtractives. As the embodiment of DEXTERITY, they represent the freedom to change and evolve when necessary.

YELOR is often depicted with a heavenly, yet youthful beauty befit of one that is at the forefront of all innovation. They are also prone to be given more hands and eyes compared to the other deities, as well as adorned with glittering accessories.

As the supposed 'youngest' of the Subtractives, as well as the primary deities overall, YELOR is usually characterized as the most innocent, or as someone who uses such reputation to their advantage.

DEXTERITY

"Without DEXTERITY, we are staggered, trapped. We would remain overpowered by life's many unpredictabilities, preventing us from reaching our, and the world's, true potential."

YELOR is the patron of all who are are highly curious, juggling various pursuits with a zest for life. Even the hypotheticals can be mastered, because the moment is too valuable to waste. They also enjoy caring for and communicating with others, powered by information and intellectual stimulation.

However, they can also be erratic, the mind running too quickly to control. They can fear the worst conclusions and drive themselves to cowardice through anxiety alone. Attention is not their strong suit, and it's difficult to get along with their busy mind and ideas. They would rather jump from ship to ship than stop and wonder why each one ends up sinking.

The Tertiary Deities

The Tertiary Deities are further divided versions of the primary deities, sitting in-between each of them. They exist outside of the traditional mythos and are considered minor figures. Some scholars have theorized that the tertiaries were once human beings who were chosen by the primary deities as intermediaries, ascending to godhood. Others have dismissed their importance, citing their existence as merely filling in empty connections to the remaining 6 elements.

CREATIVITY (?)

With the passion of RUBER and the innovation of YELOR, ORNAN is a deity that represents the willpower and resourcefulness needed to build upon what we have.

Children of ORNAN enjoy taking things apart to see how they work, accepting that progress is not possible without trial and error. More often than not, their creativity will come from taking existing resources and finding new uses for them. Take caution as to not build a tower around yourself, where you may remain forever.

With the innovation of YELOR and the patience of GROSA, CARTU represents the sensibility and craft needed to consume and cater to the spectrum of taste.

Children of CARTU find satisfaction in creating what is intended to be consumed, whether by themselves or others. They understand that all things are temporary, so they relish in creating short-term, memorable experiences. A potential side effect is over-indulging in 'good' things, which may lead to trouble.

PRESERVATION (?)

With the patience of GROSA and the stability of CUWAL, SPRYN represents the tradition and history needed to look to the past in order to shape our future.

Children of SPRYN find themselves deeply interested in certain points in our history and lore. After all, people and society can only improve if we acknowledge the rights and wrongs of our past. But beware, as dutiful study may spark conspiracy, which may lead to distrust towards both people and institutions.

With the stability of CUWAL and the curiosity of BLAIR, ASULI represents the intelligence and freedom needed to examine the world and our place within it.

Children of ASULI understand that the world is complex, and the only way upwards is to do what they're told. So, they obey, but inwardly, they're placing their fate in their own hands, waiting for the opportunity to escape and regain control. Or they may even manipulate the system from within.

DEVOTION (?)

With the curiosity of BLAIR and the glamour of MAXUS, VYLOT represents the faith and ritual needed to embrace mortality and believe in something greater.

Children of VYLOT strive to find community of like-minded people to contribute to a broader discussion. Their discoveries, their journey in the world exist to be shared with others, often through intimate experiences and creative expression. But one may push themselves too far for the sake of learning what they may find.

With the glamour of MAXUS and the passion of RUBER, RHODA represents the persuasion and allure needed to truly understand people and what compels them.

Children of RHODA are storytellers who wield both heart and soul like dual weapons. What piques their interest is the blurry line between reality and pretense, and how sentimentality can blur it even further. Perhaps then, when they truly master it, they may suppress the weaknesses in their own feelings as well.
